about

“The Light Within” is 10 minutes of inspired therapeutic solo harp music for deep relaxation and meditation ~ may the sounds of this inspired music gently touch your heart and soothe your soul.

The story of how and why this single 10 minute track was recorded feels like divine intervention. A short time ago I decided it was important to go through an accreditation process to become certified as a clinical musician.

One of my assignments through the “Harp for Healing” course was to submit four different recordings demonstrating my ability to play differently for various patient populations. The fourth recording was to be reflective of music I would play bedside for a patient during their end-of-life transition and/or a patient needing pain relief. This type of music is open, flowing, without a specific rhythmic pulse or meter, with unfamiliar melodies and smooth segues.

Our son, Justin helped me record the four different assignments. As I listened to Recording #4 I found myself experiencing a relaxation response (deep exhales) several times. Then I saw this music being used during shavasana at the end of a yoga class. I shared the track with a dear musician friend for her input. Below is the response she posted on Facebook:

"I was standing at the sink tonight washing dishes when I got a note from my friend Amy. Amy Camie, as many of you know, is a remarkably gifted harpist and composer, and she was sending me a piece she had just recorded, basically hot off the press. She asked me if I thought it would be good to play during shavasana. Shavasana is what happens at the end of yoga class. It means "corpse pose" and that's how still I like to feel. I don't like music during shavasana, so I was kind of listening with one ear.

But, after a few seconds, I felt myself giving in and being lulled into a quiet, meditative state, even as I continued to wash the dishes. I heard myself sigh and felt tension kind of melting away. It was like a gateway, a gateway to meditation, and I thought to myself, THIS is what people need who think they CANNOT meditate. It soothed me, it lulled me. I had neither will nor reason to resist.

If you have always thought meditation would be good for you but you were never able to actually sit down and do it, I believe I have the answer for you.

At the end of yoga we address each other and say 'Namaste' which for me means, I acknowledge the light within you. After listening to this music, I felt like I was acknowledging the light within myself."

And hence, the title of this track became “The Light Within” ~ may the sounds of this inspired music gently touch your heart and soothe your soul.
